Philosophy:
  • I believe that education is the place where the isolated individual meets the infinite possibility of the outside world. Knowledge is one of the most powerful tools we have and we can gain skills and appreciation from any subject, regardless of our skill level. It is a place where we are confronted with other views, opinions, cultures, and lifestyles and are able to see that we all have more in common than we thought. I work to provide the kind of respectful environment where all students are free to learn, grow, guess, explore, and express in a way suitable to them by varying my teaching style, accommodating student needs, and using a variety of assessments

As a music educator, I have the unique opportunity to delve into the importance of aesthetics. The beauty of music is that it is so unnecessary, yet so vital to our sense of self, community, and life. Music teaches dedication, discipline, self-esteem, self-expression, creativity, respect, appreciation of beauty, and teamwork. To experience music is to experience our cultural evolution and evaluate our own life experience and worldview. I hope to open students’ minds to new forms of expression and ways to communicate, allowing them the chance to develop an appreciation of music and learning that transcends my short time with them.
